Bucerías To Celebrate Our Lady Of Peace Patron Saint Festival

Bucerías will celebrate the traditional Our Lady of Peace Patron Saint Festival from January 16th through the 24th of the month. This is a religious celebration that has been observed for many years in the Riviera Nayarit.

The most symbolic act of the tradition is the Maritime Pilgrimage with the Peace Torch, which is escorted by boats that place themselves in the shape of a cross on January 24th.

The fishermen leave from La Cruz de Huanacaxtle and once they arrive in Bucerías attend a Mass offered for the Virgin in the Church of Our Lady of Peace. Men from all over the southern coast of Nayarit come together to pray for a year of good fishing, tourism, health and prosperity for the area’s families.

During the week there are masses held for the faithful, vibrant fireworks displays and, of course, the crowning of a new Queen of the Patron Saint Festival. All of these activities take place in the main plaza in Bucerías.

Another aspect of the festivities is the sports, artistic and cultural events, which are an important part of the community development of the Riviera Nayarit.

The Our Lady of Peace Patron Saint Festival not only welcomes the residents of Bucerías, but also those of nearby towns and is a favorite of the many Canadian expats that live in the Wind Capital of the Riviera Nayarit, as well as visitors from the US and other Mexican nationals.

The bazaar, the dances, the festivities and the general rejoicing that takes over Bucerías is one more reason for the increase in tourism and income from sales, which together represents a strong revenue for the locals who welcome visitors with open arms.

Nuevo Vallarta’s Bike Path: A Must In The Riviera Nayarit

Since its inauguration in March 2015, the Nuevo Vallarta Bike Path has become a welcome attraction to enjoy in the Riviera Nayarit. Every day, tourists and locals come to run, skate or cycle along this recreational trail.

The Fraccionamiento Náutico Turístico Nuevo Vallarta neighborhood is home to many of the Destination’s hotels, which is why building the bike path was an excellent decision on the part of the Nayarit State Government for continued development of this microdestination.

The bike path is nearly two miles long and follows the Avenida Paseo de los Cocoteros, just a few yards from the beach. As they meander down the trail visitors can enjoy the diverse flora and fauna of the area, especially the birdlife.

Bicycles have recently grown in popularity in Mexico, with both families and cyclists as a community always seeking safety, which is something the bike path offers with its well-placed street and transit signage.

It’s a known fact that North Americans love to run, and here they’ll find a great space to indulge their pastime when they visit Mexico’s Pacific Treasure.

The Riviera Nayarit hosts several races during the year, including a 5K, 10K and even a Tourism Half Marathon; thus the bike path has become an ideal spot for training and preparing for the competitions.

Brazil, one of the Emerging Markets of interest to the Riviera Nayarit, is also known for its runners. In fact, Brazilian journalists in town for a FAM trip participated in the last Tourism Half Marathon.

Connecting Flamingos With Bucerías

In case two miles isn’t quite long enough, the bike path connects with the Maestro Flamingos Condominium walkway, which extends another nearly two- and-a-quarter miles until it connects with the road. This segment also offers a chance to get on the road to Bucerías via a path that begins where the hotels end in Flamingos.

Bucerías: The Best Place To Learn How To Jetsurf

Bucerías has long been known as the best spot for kitesurfing, but now it’s also the ideal destination for Banderas Bay’s newest extreme watersport: Jetsurfing.

Juan Carlos de Urquidi, Manager of the Jalisco-Nayarit Jetsurf Club, explained the reasons why they chose the Wind Capital of the Riviera Nayarit in an interview held just a couple of weeks from the launch of this new area attraction.

“After analyzing the bay area we found that the best point to demonstrate and teach Jetsurf was by Bucerías—the waves here are calmer for a longer period of time plus there’s the sand bar, making this area less dangerous for falls,” said Juan Carlos de Urquidi.

The PR and Promotions department of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau will bring international press and travel agents to experience this new activity, which they can them promote after the fact as an additional attraction offered by the Destination.

“The idea is to position Banderas Bay as an international hotspot to come learn to Jetsurf. The first school was started six months ago in Cancun and it was very successful; now we have the world’s second Jetsurf school here in the Riviera Nayarit,” he added.

There will be competitions held around the sport and it will be included in several of the Destination’s events. For example, the upcoming Punta Mita Beach Festival will include a Jetsurf exhibition.

The club is located on Playa Destiladeras in the Playas de Huanacaxtle neighborhood of Bucerías, Nayarit. Among their services they offer half-hour and one-hour classes, as well as 10-lesson packages; they also sell boards and accessories. For more information visit
