Enjoy this treasure which is part of the protected natural areas, UNESCO biosphere reserve and RAMSAR site. The access to the islands is limited, but it doesn’t prevent you from visiting them and enjoy La Nopalera beach, go kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving or paddling.
Its diverse ecosystem allows you to see different marine species from fish to humpback whales in the winter season. It’s the house of more than 44 flora and fauna species, like the charismatic blue-footed booby bird, which population is the largest worldwide in its own specie. And besides whales, you can also see some dolphins and sea turtles having fun in the surroundings of the islands.
The only way you can access its hidden beach is by swimming through a natural rocky tunnel that reaches this secretly private beach.
There are different spots to check on during the tour, such as The Hidden Beach (The main attraction of the area), La Nopalera Beach, the rock bridge, and do things like snorkeling in its beautiful clear waters that allows you to see a great amount of sea life variety.
Sometimes it is impossible to reach it, since the tide gets high and the tunnel gets flooded, but if you’re lucky enough, you can enjoy one of the most spectacular beaches you can meet in Mexico. This beach, like the whole place, is also a protected natural area, so we must help to preserve it so that it can continue to be a sanctuary open to all, in fact, even taking sand from it is prohibited.

Bucerías will celebrate the traditional Our Lady of Peace Patron Saint Festival from January 16th through the 24th of the month. This is a religious celebration that has been observed for many years in the Riviera Nayarit.
The most symbolic act of the tradition is the Maritime Pilgrimage with the Peace Torch, which is escorted by boats that place themselves in the shape of a cross on January 24th.
The fishermen leave from La Cruz de Huanacaxtle and once they arrive in Bucerías attend a Mass offered for the Virgin in the Church of Our Lady of Peace. Men from all over the southern coast of Nayarit come together to pray for a year of good fishing, tourism, health and prosperity for the area’s families.
During the week there are masses held for the faithful, vibrant fireworks displays and, of course, the crowning of a new Queen of the Patron Saint Festival. All of these activities take place in the main plaza in Bucerías.
Another aspect of the festivities is the sports, artistic and cultural events, which are an important part of the community development of the Riviera Nayarit.
The Our Lady of Peace Patron Saint Festival not only welcomes the residents of Bucerías, but also those of nearby towns and is a favorite of the many Canadian expats that live in the Wind Capital of the Riviera Nayarit, as well as visitors from the US and other Mexican nationals.
The bazaar, the dances, the festivities and the general rejoicing that takes over Bucerías is one more reason for the increase in tourism and income from sales, which together represents a strong revenue for the locals who welcome visitors with open arms.
The good news just keeps on coming in this New Year for the Riviera Nayarit: during the most recent edition of the Travvy Awards, the Destination took home the gold statue for “Best Luxury Destination: Mexico.”
The Travvy Awards recognize entities with the highest standards of excellence in the tourism industry. The Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) nominated the Destination.
“It’s very important to kick off the New Year with something like this to keep us top of mind with consumers,” said Marc Murphy, Managing Director of the Riviera Nayarit CVB. “We also need to point out the voting for these awards is done by the same agents that belong to Travel Alliance Partners, who are the ones who recommend and sell the tourism destinations.”
“This achievement is a result of all the work we’ve done to position ourselves as a luxury destination,” added Murphy. “There’s no doubt the backing of the State Government headed by Roberto Sandoval has been key. This is just one of the many excellent outcomes that have been taking place because of that.”
The Riviera Nayarit’s triumph was announced on January 6, 2016, in New York City. The Riviera Maya took home the silver and Los Cabos won bronze.
The New York office for the Mexico Tourism Board received the gold award won by Mexico as a country within the category of “Best Luxury Destination.”
Both hotels and hotel chains with properties in the Riviera Nayarit were among the winners in the long list of categories that made up the 2016 Travvy Awards. For a complete winners list click http://www.travvyawards.com/
Since its inauguration in March 2015, the Nuevo Vallarta Bike Path has become a welcome attraction to enjoy in the Riviera Nayarit. Every day, tourists and locals come to run, skate or cycle along this recreational trail.
The Fraccionamiento Náutico Turístico Nuevo Vallarta neighborhood is home to many of the Destination’s hotels, which is why building the bike path was an excellent decision on the part of the Nayarit State Government for continued development of this microdestination.
The bike path is nearly two miles long and follows the Avenida Paseo de los Cocoteros, just a few yards from the beach. As they meander down the trail visitors can enjoy the diverse flora and fauna of the area, especially the birdlife.
Bicycles have recently grown in popularity in Mexico, with both families and cyclists as a community always seeking safety, which is something the bike path offers with its well-placed street and transit signage.
It’s a known fact that North Americans love to run, and here they’ll find a great space to indulge their pastime when they visit Mexico’s Pacific Treasure.
The Riviera Nayarit hosts several races during the year, including a 5K, 10K and even a Tourism Half Marathon; thus the bike path has become an ideal spot for training and preparing for the competitions.
Brazil, one of the Emerging Markets of interest to the Riviera Nayarit, is also known for its runners. In fact, Brazilian journalists in town for a FAM trip participated in the last Tourism Half Marathon.
Connecting Flamingos With Bucerías
In case two miles isn’t quite long enough, the bike path connects with the Maestro Flamingos Condominium walkway, which extends another nearly two- and-a-quarter miles until it connects with the road. This segment also offers a chance to get on the road to Bucerías via a path that begins where the hotel zone ends, by Flamingos.
